Collective of Black Artists Presents Yebo!

COBA, Collective of Black Artists, celebrates their 15th anniversary of traditional and innovative dance performances with a special dance program at Harbourfront Centre’s Premiere Dance Theatre, from Friday February 29 to March 2nd.

COBA will unveil two new dance creations: Cross Currents, a highly anticipated African contemporary by choreographer Bakari E. Lindsay; and Doundoun dance which is a recreation of a woman’s traditional drumming dance in Guinea.

COBA’s dance program will also feature the return of South African dance master Mantsoe’s Bodika/Session, an avant-garde fusion of traditional African physicality with Balinese dance and martial arts.

Sony Centre Presents African Footprint & Harlem Gospel Choir

Sony Centre For The Performing Arts will celebrate Black History Month with two exciting productions: African Footprint from South Africa and the Harlem Gospel Choir.

Formerly known as the Hummingbird Centre, visitors have come to expect world class performances during February.

African Footprint is an explosive stampede of Afro-and Euro-centric music and dance — kwela-jive, traditional gumboot, tap, contemporary ballet, and hip-hop that tells the vibrant and diverse history of South Africa.

It features 30 young performers from Soweto and is the country’s longest running production, seen by over 250 million people world-wide. African Footprint takes place February 7th to 9th.

The Harlem Gospel Choir is one of the world’s best gospel

3 MO’ DIVAS at Winter Garden Theatre

3 MO’ DIVAS, a theatrically staged musical journey celebrating the versatility of the female voice will swing into Toronto’s Winter Garden Theatre from March 4 to 16, 2008. Produced by Dancap Productions Inc.,this unique concert features a taste of several different genres including classical, opera, ragtime, jazz and favourites from years past.

The creative force behind 3 MO’ DIVAS is Broadway writer/director Marion J. Caffey who scored an international hit with Three Mo’ Tenors. He also had success in Toronto with Ain’t Misbehavin and Cookin’ at the Cookery.

3 MO’ DIVAS stars three critically acclaimed performers Yvette Gonzalez-Nacert, Laurice Lanier and Jamet Pittman.
