DJ Hi-TEK

BilalThis DJ/Producer burst on the scene in 1996 with the Cincinnati-based group Mood, who released their debut album entitled Doom to much critical acclaim, though less than desired commercial success. Arguably one of the hottest producers of the now, Hi-Tek has to his credit a whole slew of reputable tracks, including his work with Mos Def and Talib Kweli on the now classic Black Star album, as well as his ongoing partnership with Kweli as one of the new voices of hip hop consciousness, Reflection Eternal. With an ear and feel that surpasses most in the industry, Hi-Tek's complex productions move fluently between that neck-snapping, bone-rattling armament a warrior might wear off to the battle, to the percussive sounds of hard-fought victory, to the smoothed out melodies that might align two people in celebratory togetherness at the dance circle. His most recent solo endeavor, Hi-Teknology, pits this producers against both hip hop mainstays and lesser known artists alike, including Mos Def, Common, Kweli, Slum Village, and Vinia Mojica, as well as up-and-coming vocalist Jonell.
